I hope that no one messes with the trash pick up in town. In fact, I wish that the administration would take a look at how the sanitation dept works, and take note of it, and possibly learn from them.
I might be mistaken, but I have always heard that the sanitation workers have a certain number of homes that they need to pick their trash up,a "route" so to speak, and once they are done with that days route, they are done working for the day. It doesn't matter if they finish their route in 3 hours or 8.. they get to go home when they are done, and are paid for 8 hours of work, regardless of how many actual hours they really put in. That is why anyone watching the sanitation department work, and compare that to the pace of the average city worker, can surmise why they seem to be so motivated, and driven and efficient.
I think that we need to support our own sanitation department, as we have always done, but I think that we either need to get the rest of the city workers on the same program that the sanitation workers are on, or we need to get the sanitation workers on the same system that the average city worker is on.
Why is anyone surprised that Norwalk's Mayor would suggest privatizing the sanitation department? Privatization of government services have long been a Democratic agenda; although well hidden in their platform.
Dosen't make sense to me since Unions are in the back pocket of Democrates; yet give the Democrats a chance they would go out of their way to break a union?
Not all that long ago our Governor suggested privatizing ODOT, (Ohio Department of Transportation, that quickly went to the wayside when he realize ODOT is on of the largest unions in the state!
I'm just Thinking Out Loud, but maybe we should privatize our government!
maybe instead of looking to do away with our sanitation department, maybe we should be looking at how and why they are so productive and efficient at their jobs, and then implementing the way that makes them so productive onto the rest of the city workers.
I have always heard that the reason that the sanitation workers work so diligently and at a good pace , especially compared to any other branch of the city employees was that they had a set route, and a set number of locations in which they had to get to on any given day, and once they finish their route, they are done for the day..this is a good system, and it really does make them work efficiently.. why don't we do this incentive payment for all city employees??but instead of then paying them for 8 hours of work when they can get it done in 4 hours, only pay them for their 4 hours of work??
I know that there are loopholes in this system, and of course if the employees are slowing down to finish their work to get their time in.. but since we are blessed with supervisors who have been with the department for years, they should know better that anyone how long any job should take, and if these employees continue to "milk" the system, they can be let go, and there are plenty of unemployed workers who would take their jobs in a heartbeat!
I think that this needs some further investigating
Privatization of government is a Democratic idea? Really? Quit blaming everything on Democrats and crack a book.
